Dr Uma Shashikant, Chairperson and Co-founder

UMA SHASHIKANT is Chairperson, CIEL and is the Founder. Uma holds a doctorate in finance and is a reputed subject matter expert and trainer in the capital markets area. She was professor at Indian Institute of Capital Markets (now taken over by the National Institute of Securities Markets) where she has trained a range of professionals from ministers, bureaucrats, regulators, fund managers, analysts, bankers and investment advisors. She then worked with Prudential ICICI Mutual Fund, as Vice President, Knowledge Management, was in-charge of training, product communication, institutional investor interface, and worked on several internal projects in operations, investments and risk. Uma then was Chief R&D officer at ING's Multi Manager Division (Optimix) and was part of the investment and management committees. She has been on several committees and working groups in the mutual fund industry. Uma has been the Chairperson of the examination committee of the Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB) India and subject matter expert for the National Certification in Financial Markets (NCFM). Uma drives the vision and strategy for CIEL and is now focusing on content and research across print and digital media, working out of Atlanta, USA.

Divya Changulani, Managing Director, CEO and Co-founder

DIVYA CHANGULANI is Director and is a Co-founder of the company. She is an associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in India (A.C.A), is a Cost, and Works Accountant (C.W.A). She has over 20 years of experience. She articled and worked with Pricewaterhouse Coopers in their audit and business advisory division, working on internal and statutory audits of broking houses, banks, funds and other entities in the banking and financial services sector. She then worked at Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund, where she was involved in functions of fund accounting, operations, finance, treasury management, MIS and projects. Divya's work on valuation and accounting of derivatives was adopted as the industry standard for mutual funds. She was also part of the core products committee at Kotak mutual fund. Later Divya worked for ING's Multi Manager Division (Optimix) where she was in-charge of the finance, treasury and budget functions, risk management, quality control and MIS. At CIEL, Divya has set up and managed finance, operations, customer service, legal and compliance, building all internal processes, functions and teams to scale. She has supported technology, creative, content and research teams in the company as well. Divya has spear headed and successfully built newer content, training and education verticals for the company. Divya currently works out of Arizona, USA.

Sonu Bhasin, Advisor to CIEL's Board

SONU BHASIN is advisor to CIEL's board. She holds a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Mathematics from St. Stephen's college, Delhi University and an MBA from Faculty of Management Sciences, Delhi University. Sonu Bhasin is one of the early and senior women professionals in the industry. In her career of over 30 years she has set up and managed large businesses, and diverse teams, across financial and non-financial sectors in India and overseas. Sonu has led various businesses in senior leadership positions during her corporate career. She began as a Tax officer with the Tata Group and spent 13 years with the group before becoming a banker. As a banker, she was a director at ING and Barings, President Axis Bank, Group President Yes Bank before going back to the Tata's as COO and Tata Capital. Currently Sonu is an independent Director of boards of companies including Whirlpool, Vadofone Mobile Services, Mahindra First Choice, Transcorp INTL and Sutlej Textiles. She is the founder of Fab-Families and Businesses, an initiative that helps sme's to look at their family businesses through the prism of family dynamics to build multi generational family businesses. Sonu is advising CIEL on its strategy to take its reach to a larger audience and to enhance the acceptability of its certifications and trainings in the industry as well as among students and professionals.

Harbinder Saini, Head - Technology and Projects

HARBINDER SAINI is Head - Technology at CIEL. He is graduate in Computer Engineering , with over 21 years of experience in the information technology industry. He worked for the Citigroup's payment and banking products in global locations. He worked for ING's Multi Manager Division (Optimix) as their Vice President (Engineering) to create a first-of-its-kind platform for transacting in mutual funds and financial planning. He is a specialist in application development and business processes and has vast experience with multinationals and start ups. Harbinder drives CIEL'S technology strategy.

Shreeja Thirani, Director and Head - Business Development

SHREEJA THIRANI is Director, CEO and Head - Business Development, CIEL. She is an MBA in Finance and has over 15 years of experience in the investment industry, having worked with an insurance company first and with HSBC Mutual Fund next, looking after sales for the northern region. She has trained distributors and bankers on products and performance, and managed channels, promotions, campaigns and product launches in her job. She has managed over 200 relationships across various channels involving interactive training and dissemination of market information. She has structured and coordinated several distributor training programs and investor conferences. At CIEL, as CEO, Shreeja drives and runs the business, developing new client relationships, expanding the business verticals, strengthening existing relationships and widening its product offerings.

Arti Anand Bhargava, Head - Content

ARTI ANAND BHARGAVA is Head - Content at CIEL. She is an MBA in Finance and has 13 years of experience in the investment industry. During her stint with mutual funds, she has worked at Prudential ICICI Mutual Fund in product communication, factsheets and investment communication, investor newsletters, research and analysis. She has been working with CIEL since the last 8 years on content generation for courses, books, newsletters, trainings and client marketing literature, across various subject areas (Mutual fund products, Mutual fund operations, Wealth Management, Financial planning, Investment markets, Products). She co-authored CIEL's publication titled 'Understanding Mutual Funds' with Dr. Uma Shashikant and Sunita Abraham, and contributed to research and content for CIEL's 'Wealth Management - Basic Level', 'Wealth Management - Advance Level' workbooks.

Girija Gadre, Head - Training

GIRIJA GADRE is Head - Training at CIEL. She is a Company Secretary and L.L.B with more than 15 years of experience. She was VP - Compliance at ING Vysya Mutual Fund before which she has worked in legal and compliance functions of leading Mutual Funds like Birla SunLife Mutual Fund and Franklin Templeton Mutual Fund. In CIEL, Girija drives content and training for the NISM Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Programs as well as Investor Education Programs offered by CIEL. She provides regular updates to the trainers empanelled by CIEL, conducts train the trainer workshops and monitors quality of training delivery. She aligns learning objectives of CIEL's certifications to regulatory requirements and to competencies required for various job roles.

Deepa Vasudevan

DEEPA VASUDEVAN works with CIEL, holding research and content development responsibilities in the Macroeconomics, Finance and Debt areas. She holds a Doctoral degree in Economics and has worked as a Consultant with the National Council of Applied Economic Research. Deepa's blog on "The Widening Credit-Deposit Wedge" has more than 45000 views since it was last written in 2012.
