1. The NPS is a retirement scheme by the government of India for all citizens on a voluntary basis. 

2. It is a defined contribution plan. The corpus depends on the value of contributions and returns generated through investments. 

3. The money invested in NPS is managed by PFRDA-registered pension fund managers as per the investment guidelines provided by PFRDA. 

4. The NPS offers two choices—Active Choice allows the investor to decide the asset allocation and Auto Choice that invests money automatically in line with the age of the subscriber. 

5. There are two types of accounts—Tier I where the contribution cannot be withdrawn and Tier II where the contribution can be withdrawn anytime.
