Yoga, Yoni and the Union Budget

A continuing conversation between the common man (Him), and his opinionated, bossy lady friend (Her), both inspired by RK Laxman’s common man cartoons. She is confident and all-knowing. He is, as always, baffled.

Her: Have you heard the latest MMJ?

Him: Monday Morning Joke?

Her (scathing look): Murli Manohar Joshi

Him: No

Her: MMJ ji has discovered that doing yoga reduces the risk of rapes. Wah! What a great man! He has found such a simple, made-in-india solution to a complex social problem. I can see the banners:

योगा की ज्वाला जली , बलात्कार की बला टली ! This discovery couldn’t have come at a better time.

Him: Why?

Her: Because it is almost time for the Budget.

Him: Huh?

Her: Haven’t you noticed how thin the FM has become?

Him: He’s doing Yoga?

Her (even more scathing look): He’s fretting over the fiscal deficit. It has become like Hanuman’s tail. The more we try to douse it, the more it grows. Very exhausting for Jaitley ji. Just when we were thanking our Saudi bhais for squeezing the deficit, the CSO goes and messes up all the numbers. Now we have to push it down all over again.

Him: How?

Her: Using yogic principles, of course. The basics of yoga are: stretch,  bend and twist. Stretch our resources thin: slash expenses, cancel funding for schools and hospitals, knock off subsidies. Bend backward to please the electorate; then bend forward to bow to foreign investors. Twist the truth here and there: kick some expenses to next year, bring in some income from last year.

Him: What?

Her: Time honoured time travel. Indians discovered that centuries ago. What a sanskriti we have! Let me tell you my mann ki baat. If all our civil servants did yoga, we wouldn’t have a deficit.
